Long arm kits completely re-establish more correct geometry for your leading and trailing control arms, allowing a pillow-smooth ride over paved highways and offroad trails alike, as well as articulation galore. Imagine “floating” over the sections of washboard road that used to make your entire XJ shake and chatter. By re-establishing new control arm locations and fitting your Cherokee with longer control arms, the energy of the road imperfections are now transmitted directly into the springs and shock absorbers, where they belong…rather than being transmitted up the lower and upper stock control arms due to the poorly-placed control arm mounts on the “frame” for anything more than around 2.5-3.0″ of lift.
You’ll not believe the ride quality difference between long arms and short arms, and these packages also include an upgraded crossmember for offroad drivers who find themselves belly-up on rocks. A perfect upgrade for these kits is to add on a beefy upgraded anti-sway bar (available below) to allow more precise cornering as well as a quicker response to your steering input through the steering wheel.
Clayton Off Road Inc. coil conversion long arm upgrade kits is the ultimate XJ rear suspension setup. This kit is designed to build off of our front XJ long arm cross member. This rear half only kit comes a new weld in cross member, ¼ flat skid plate, 2 support rails, complete high clearance axle bracket kit, new upper coil buckets, 1 new upper shock bracket and upper and lower adjustable long arms. This kit is intended for the more experienced customer or high end fab shop because it requires welding, cutting, and modifying the unibody frame rails. A custom exhaust will need to be rerouted, and depending on your model year you may need to move your e-brake cables. Basically this is not an easy kit to install, but its benefits are amazing. You get a great ride because of the change from leaf springs to coil springs. The 4 link suspension eliminates any axle wrap issues you may have had with standard leaf springs.
