XJ and TJ Brake Changes

Unfortunately, the only way that we know to ascertain whether your 2000 (and some 2001 models) has the early setup or late setup is to actually remove one of the front rotors and measure it's height. Hold on...it's really not that much trouble. If you can change a spare tire, you can do this. Just remove the five lug nuts, remove the tire, get a 1/2" socket on the back of the caliper and remove the two bolts that hold it to the knuckle, swing it out of the way, and the rotor comes right off. To install it again, note that the lower side of the pads has a channel cut in them that fits over the knuckle, so slide the lower section into position first, then rotate it inward toward the axle and the tops will slip into place. FINGER-TIGHTEN the bolts into the threads AT LEAST TWO TURNS before you start in with the ratchet, as it's easy to strip these out if you get them slightly off. Now, the early models have a measurement of 3 3/16" (3.1875" or 82mm) from the floor (if the rotor is sitting flat, hub facing upward) to the top of the hub (measure through the center of the rotor, not from the side, if you want an accurate measurement). The new models have a measurement of 3 1/16" (3.0625" or 78mm). After you know that, you can order the correct model for your Jeep. Sorry for the hassle. You can thank Mopar for that little variation. Oh, by the way...your hub bearings are different, and won't work on the opposite model, so make sure that you know that when ordering a hub bearing later on. Thanks very much for your business! Very Sincerely, Kevin [/et_pb_text][/et_pb_column][/et_pb_row][/et_pb_section]
